BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES:
A Proclamation.
I, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States of America, and Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy thereof, do hereby proclaim and declare that hereafter, as heretofore, the war will be prosecuted for the object of practically restoring the constitutional relation between the United States and the people thereof, in which States that relation is, or may be, suspended or disturbed; that it is my purpose, upon the next meeting of Congress to again recommend the adoption of a practical measure tendering pecuniary (monetary) aid to the free acceptance or rejection of all slave States, so called, the people whereof may not then be in rebellion against the United States, and which States may then have voluntarily adopted, or thereafter may voluntarily adopt, immediate or gradual abolishment of slavery within their respective limits, and that the effort to colonize persons of African descent, with their consent, upon this continent, or elsewhere, with the previously obtained consent of the Governments existing there, will be continued; that on the first day of January in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, all persons held as slaves within any State, or any designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free; and the executive government of the United States, including the military and naval authority thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of each persons, or any of them, in any effects they may make for their actual freedom; that the executive will, on the first day of January aforesaid, by proclamation, designate the States, or part of States, if any, in which the people thereof respectively, shall then be in rebellion against the United States; and the fact that any State or the people thereof shall on that day be in good faith represented in the Congress of the United States by members chosen thereto at elections wherein a majority of the qualified voters of such State shall have participated, shall, in the absence of strong countervailing testimony, be deemed conclusive evidence that such State and the people thereof, have not been in rebellion against the United States; that attention is hereby called to an act of Congress entitled “an act to make an additional article of war” approved March 13, 1862, and which act is in the words and figures following:
“Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That hereafter the following shall be promulgated as an additional article of war for the government of the army of the United States, and shall be obeyed and observed as such:
“Article – All officers or persons in the military or naval service of the United States are prohibited from employing any of the forces under their respective commands for the purpose of returning fugitives from service or labor, who may have escaped from any persons to whom such service or labor is claimed to be due, and any officer who shall be found guilty by a court martial of violating this article shall be dismissed from the service.
“Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this act shall take effect from and after its passage.
Also to the ninth and tenth sections of an act entitled “An act to suppress insurrection, to punish treason and rebellion, to seize and confiscate property of rebels, and for other purposes,” approved July 17, 1862, and which sections are in the words and figure following:
“Sec. 9. And be it further enacted, That all slaves of persons who shall hereafter be engaged in rebellion against the government of the United States, or who shall in any way give aid or comfort thereto, escaping from such persons and taking refuge within the lines of the army; and all slaves captured from such persons or deserted by them and coming under the control of the Government of the United States; and all slaves of such persons found or being within any place occupied by rebel forces and afterwards occupied by the forces of the United States, shall be deemed captives of war, and shall be forever free of their servitude and not again held as slaves.
ARTICLE- All officers persons in the military or naval service of The United States are prohibited from enjoying any of the forces under their respective commands for the purpose of returning fugitives from service or labour, who may have escaped from any person to whom such service or labour is claimed to be due, and any such officer who shall be found guilty, by Court Martial, shall be dismissed from the service.
“Sec.10. And be it further enacted, That no slave escaping into any State, Territory, or the District of Columbia, from any other State, shall be delivered up, or in any way impeded or hindered of his liberty.
“And I do hereby enjoin upon and order all persons engaged in the military and naval service of the United States to observe, obey, and enforce, within their respective spheres of service, the act, and sections above recited.
And the executive will in due time recommend that all citizens of the United States who shall have remained loyal thereto throughout the rebellion, shall (upon the restoration of the constitutional relation between the United States, and their respective States, and people, if that relation shall have been suspended or disturbed) be compensated for all losses by acts of the United States, including the loss of slaves.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.
Done at the City of Washington this twenty-second day of September, in the year of our Lord, one thousand, eight hundred and sixty-two, and of the Independence of the United States the eighty seventh.

Make sure learning continues EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR. Try to ensure your Angels (and youπ) can recall something at the end of the day that you did not know at the beginning.
If you sign your child up for tennis camp, canoe class, earth science, basket-weaving or any Summer day camp, DO NOT LEAVE!!!! YOU MUST BE WITH YOUR CHILD AT ALL TIMES!!!!

NOT BE UNDER YOUR SUPERVISION.
Actively participate in your child’s progress. Don’t just sit there on your phone. Pay attention, so that you and your child can have a shared experience. ROOT for him/her. Actively Encourage him/her so that he /she can succeed at whatever task it is.
Please believe he/she is going to look to you for your support many times throughout the class. You make sure you don’t miss that glance! It could mean the difference between a successful lob or an out! Understand?
YOU DO NOT WANT TO HEAR THAT “OUT!”
You return your child’s split-second glance with a “YOU CAN DO IT!!!” And, then a “WHOO-HOOO!!!!” WHEN HE/SHE NAILS IT! Or a private thumbs up, if it’s a correct answer to a question at life-science camp. π
When my son took capoeira, I learned (almost π ) just as much as he did! π β€ β€ β€
- Maybe act as a teacher’s assistant ? Help pass out documents, assist with supervision…
- Help in any way possible
- Take notes for study/practice at home
- Bring Crownies (chocolate-chip cookie covered brownies) or other treats/gifts for the instructor.
- Arrive early and find an incognito location where your child is aware of your presence but not to intrude on the instructor’s authority/autonomy.
If, for any reason, you are not welcome, find another class. (!)
Continue HOMESCHOOL. Set aside an hour every morning for some type of educational activity.

I lucked up on the first one. Truly a collectors item full of brightly coloured illustrations of nothing but BLACK PEOPLE and references to OURSTORY.
Plus took me back down memory lane when my baby played with this beautiful doll that looked just like her.
Al Hamdulillah tho because there was no such thing as a black doll like Miss Kenya when I was her age!
The story was great but as with most tales and images of Black Family in America, one parent is ALWAYS missing.
Sadly, we have become so used to it that we never complained.
WELL, I AM IN THE NATION OF ISLAM AND WE ARE WELL KNOWN FOR POINTING OUT FAULTS AND ERRORS.
I AM COMPLAINING! THE SQUEEKY WHEEL GETS THE OIL!!!

I vividly remember when my Grandmother stopped talking about my Grandfather.

I am not trying to follow any white nor Black commercializers instructions on specs.
You may remember my euphoria when I first started.
Well, now I say, start cutting out squares but AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I regretted that for about six months.
But time heals most wounds.

Like in New Orleans, they have memorials – Second Line – for a deceased loved one every year!!!
I think that is so important for posterity’s sake.
I know so little about my ancestors.
And I don’t trust Google.
It is much more heartfelt and meaningful to hear FIRST-PERSON accounts.
In the Nineties, around the time of Kenya, Kwanzaa hit its peak – Libations and Ancestors, Kente Kloth, Kiswahili and Karamus : OURSTORY was very important.
Thirty years later it seems like a fad.
How could my Grandmother forget about my Grandfather???
If we had done like New Orleanians and had a get-together every year in September, theirstory would be much better. On me.
I became Muslim.
But I don’t think it is ever too late. π
My Grandfather was AWESOME.
He took my father in, even though his parentage was suspect. Yes.
My Grandmother told me several stories hinting that her husband was not the father of her middle child. And he knew it. He accepted him regardless.
When I got older and became Muslim, THE TRUTH, in all areas of my life, became manifest.
He (My Grandfather) treated me, in my opinion, better than his biological grandchildren.
Maybe he saw me in my father (another man’s son) when he was born.
Everytime I said something he would give it a melody ππ by singing a song with lyrics echoing what I had just said.
To this day, I don’t know if he was making it up or singing something already written.
Maybe a combination of both.
But I do know that I read Eleanora Fagan’s “autobiography” (I don’t think she was literate) and she said in it that something was just too marvelous for words. π And then… This:
Another book I feel lucky to have happened upon is “MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE”
It is loosely based on Booker Taliaferro Washington’s aching desire to learn to read.
I could so feel the JOY described in this book when at last, the ciphered “hieroglyphics” he had been meticulously pondering finally shared their secrets with him and the veil was lifted!!! ALLAHU AKBAR!!!
After the Joy of FREEDOM; YET another truly indescribable feeling too marvelous for words!

My light-skinned psychiatrist told me that when BW had wealthy white donors visit Tuskegee, the students had to hide their textbooks lest these white people discover that they were learning anything more than how to be better servants/freed slaves. Heaven help them if the students actually used the Knowledge to FREE THEMSELVES IN DEED, as Abraham Lincoln’s PROCLAMATION impelled them.
Right understanding dictates that like most Black People BTW has a subconscious FEAR of the devil that makes him apologize for hating him (devil).
I am reading it strictly for a first-peron account of OURSTORY and have had to skip consecutive PAGES of his glazing!
Hakuna Matata though because It has already led to me reading the speech given by President Abraham that freed us.
It is So Totally AWESOME!!
I hope it helps us realize that most of us are still being used as slaves/servants for the slavemasters and incites us to go for self and really get free. (WORK FOR YOURSELF!!!)
